Carson Valley Children’s Aid celebrated Juneteenth at our annual fundraiser at The Commonwealth Chateau at Sugarloaf on June 21, 2023. Thank you to those who joined in the celebration to learn more about CVCA’s unique program offerings and to make contributions to our mission. We are pleased to share that we raised more than $50,000 to support our programs and offer recreational and cultural experiences for the youth and their families in the year ahead!

During the event, the CVCA youth provided education and entertainment focusing on Juneteenth. This included storytelling on the history of the Juneteenth holiday and flag, a poetry reading and an original rap performance.

The CVCA Blue Ivy Step Team also performed. The team, led by Campus Recreation Facilitator Alexis Henry, recently established its new permanent identity as the CVCA Blue Ivy Step Team. The name was selected to represent royalty and strength. This year’s team has started a new legacy that we look to continue for many years to come.

Student artwork created around the Juneteenth Holiday was on display. Mr. Laut introduced the Juneteenth project a few weeks prior to the event, and the students were asked to paint and draw their feelings about the day.

Thank you to all our speakers, performers and artists!
