n 1990 a bill was passed by Congress and signed by the President into law to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture and successes of this country. Two years later May was officially designated as the month of observance.
The first Asians documented in the Americas arrived on the west coast from the Philippines in 1587, predating the Pilgrims and other early settlers. As we commemorate the diversity and character, strength and richness of this heritage, let us heighten our awareness of injustice and adversities accompanied by violence based on race.
At CVCA we are committed to our work around inclusion and equity, as per our mission to ”honor differences” and our guiding principle of “respecting each other’s views and voices”.
