Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On this day many of us observe the memory of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by contributing our services to the community. Carson Valley youth will be engaged in service projects too, but first they are reflecting on Dr. King’s legacy and how they can follow in the footsteps of this great man. As members of the community all of us should consider what we can do now, what we can do differently, to help defend our democracy. It starts with recognizing the ever-present pain and grief of lives lost to systemic racism, police brutality and COVID-19 while recovering from the racist riot and failed takeover of the Capitol. We must come together to fight racial injustice in every form so that the America Dr. King believed in, the one where there is equality for all, becomes the reality; and persevere with impatience until his Dream is realized.
